First layouts are a series of small ready to use layout platforms that the new model train enthusiast can buy to begin their model train experience. These layout platforms are constructed of a Homosote platform top with a 4" x 5/8" plywood frame. Homosote is a paper base pressboard material, 1/2" in thickness, that has the qualitys of sound absorption, durability and fastener retention. The plywood framework is used to give lateral strength and rigidity to the platform without deforming over time and also providing space beneath the platform for wiring.
The basic platform is offered in a 4' x 4' section which can be bolted together to form various size train tables. This basic 4' x 4' section facilitates the ease of movement within constricted areas and storage of the platform. A basic configuration of 4' x 8' made up of two of the 4' x 4' sections will accomadate a new train enthusiaste train set. These platforms can also be obtained in a one piece 4' x 6' or a 4' x 8' size and by adding more 4' x 4' sections your basic platform can be expanded whenever you want.
These platforms are finished with a brown painted exterior frame work and finished edges. An option of a green or brown colored indoor/ outdoor carpeting with trimmed edges gives a good base on which to begin construction of your new model railway.
